Pasture-raised poultry, farmed with regenerative practices in Balingup, Western Australia.  We raise chickens and ducks outside, in the paddock and move them regularly onto fresh, biodiverse pasture.  We harvest the birds by hand in our custom-built poultry micro-abattoir and butcher room.

About

Southampton Homestead is owned by Jeff Pow and Michelle McManus.  We are a small family farm (120 acres) producing pasture-raised chickens and ducks from paddock to plate.

We are proud to build on the rich history of Southampton Homestead, .  From it’s long but sadly little-known Indigenous history, to its pioneering role in the Blackwood Valley district, the farm has been restored and regenerated twice. Once in 2008 from a pine plantation, and in 2013 from a bushfire – to become WA’s first regenerative, truly pasture-raised poultry enterprise.

Purchase

We are delighted to be working with Dirty Clean Food to bring you our seriously delicious chicken.  Please visit their website for all the purchase options, including delivery right to you door!

I brought my whole family along to the recent Open Day and we all thoroughly enjoyed our visit. I’m interested in Southampton Homestead on so many levels – ethical food production, regenerative agriculture, supporting small business, eating delicious-tasting chicken – I’m all for it. Keep up the great work.

Enjoy

Folks, this is real chicken! That means more flavour, beautiful firm texture and variations in colour.

For cooking, the simpler the better.

Roasting is a superb way to enjoy these birds – think low and slow (160 ° C oven and around 1 hour per kilogram as a rule).  Minimal fuss, maximum flavour.  Check out four ways to enjoy our chicken from leading, local nutritionist and naturopath, Sally Gray.

For nutrition nerds, read on to find out why pasture-raised chicken is better for you!
